Dennis K. Burgess Bio
Dennis Burgess, founder and CEO of One Man Army Marketing and Promotions Inc., is a Hempsteadian to the heart. Burgess had always felt the talent that radiated from every corner of his hood, and his company came into being because he knew that these talents deserved proper representation and promotion. Born and raised in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, Burgess became a local celebrity in his early teens as an athlete. At fourteen, he was offered a sales position for a local clothing designer, his first business opportunity that kept him off the streets, and helped him recognize his life's ambition. While in high school, Burgess earned his permanent notch in the belt of Hempstead's history as the point guard of the school's championship basketball team.
The summer of 1997, eighteen-year old Burgess moved to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue his education and basketball, just before it became "The ATL." Young Burgess was enticed by the bubbling energy of the city, and he went for a piece of the gusto. Less than a year later, Burgess presented his first event, a Basketball Tournament, quickly establishing a reputation in the city and on the college campuses as the New Yorker that knew how to rock an event. Burgess did not stop there, various productions followed, including parties at many of Atlanta's legendary nightclubs, celebrity basketball games, talent shows, and open mic showcases.
After six years, Burgess returned to New York bringing his experience from the big city to his hometown. His local events, parties, poetry slams, open mics, quickly built a strong following once the people realized it was a Burgess production. In 2004, Burgess and One Man Army Marketing and Promotions Inc. were established on the streets of Hempstead as the logo for the local stars. One Man Army's most noted event is the Annual Hempstead Music Festival, which has happened every summer since 2003.
The company's website was published on the worldwide web in 2005 featuring local artists and their products. In 2004, Burgess let the world see exactly what his events in Atlanta were like on the Match Up Mix Tape DVD. This year they released the album "DJ Bird Productions Presents Enemy Lines" a mix tape featuring Long Island breed artists, and producers.
Burgess believes that "At the end of the day, I am truly a one man army, because a lot of people are into this hip hop thing, but I am doing it all, I am not afraid to try something outside of my genre. I am fighting for my people using multi-faceted entertainment, and they know I am from the streets, my movement is street, and I will always be for the streets."
